Early morning at the Art Farm

Farm and Farmer

We purchased the 28 acre farm in 1995: after 10 years in Toronto we were keen to relocate to the scenic environment of Northumberland County. We aimed at developing a business that supported the natural systems while contributing to our livelihoods.

By using systems such as drip irrigation, crop rotation, shallow till, farm-generated compost and green manure crops, the 1 ½ acre under cultivation has become very productive.

Direct connection with the local community via Farmers Markets, CSA , Reko, and employment of summer students have all been very satisfying activities of the business.

Art Farm produce includes eggs, chicken, garlic, raspberries, potted greenhouse plants, and a wide variety of vegetables, with an emphasis on salad mixes and greens. Our season starts with the sale of organically grown potted plants from the greenhouse, available by pre-order, or at the farm plant sale, generally on the May long weekend.

By following organic standards we pride ourselves in knowing that our hard work will leave our farm and soil in better condition than we received it in order that the following generations thrive.
